Jim Caulfield, 95, of Byron, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 1, 2017 at Samaritan Bethany in Rochester.
The funeral service for Jim Caulfield will be at 11:00am, Saturday August 5, 2017 at Byron United Methodist Church with Reverend Beth Perez officiating. Visitation will be 4pm-7pm Friday, August 4, at Byron Funeral Home, 1620 Voll Drive NW, Byron, and one hour prior to the service at 10:00am on Saturday. Burial will be at the Byron Cemetery.
Jim was born May 10, 1922 in Byron, MN to Harold and Viola (Weber) Caulfield. Jim graduated from Byron High School in 1940. On October 14, 1943, he married Eileen Keefe. They made their home on the Caulfield dairy farm north of Byron, which is a 4th generation farm that has been in the family for over a hundred years.
He was active in many farm related associations. He was past president of the Olmsted County DHIA, member of the Rochester Dairy Board (1952-1986), and belonged to the MN Holstein Association. He received the award for the Highest Corn Yield and was honored as the Byron FFA Farmer of the Year. Family was a very important part of his life. He was a great role-model, instilled a strong work ethic, and valued the importance of family traditions.
Jim and Eileen enjoyed an active social life; traveling, attending various musical events, weekly outings with friends, playing cards, and making time to visit community friends and family. They were always supportive of Byron sports and education, and were honored to be inducted into the Byron Hall of Fame this past fall.
Jim is survived by 5 children; Wayne (Cheryl) Caulfield of Tucson, AZ, Carol (Walt) Hirschey of Hastings, MN, Diane (Bob) Eustice of Byron, MN, Don of San Diego, CA, Deb (Jan) Hanson of Rochester, MN; son-in-law Gene Goepferd of Maple Grove, MN; 18 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eileen in 2017; daughter, Shari Goepferd in 2016; granddaughter, Kristin Hirschey in 1978; siblings; Helen, Jack, and Keith.
Memorials are suggested to the Jim Caulfield Family to be used for a bench in memory of Jim and Eileen at Oxbow Park.
