Nicholas Robert
Ketzer
Jun 5, 1989 — Oct 7, 2026
Byron
Nicholas Robert Ketzer, known to all who loved him as Nick, passed away on October 7, 2026, at his home in Byron, Minnesota, following a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. He was 37 years old.
Nick was born on June 5, 1989, in Cincinnati, Ohio. From an early age, he possessed a remarkable work ethic, taking his first job at just fifteen and never looking back. He continued working steadily throughout his entire life until his diagnosis in 2024, a testament to the determination and grit that defined him.
A proud combat veteran, Nick served overseas in the United States Army, with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. His service reflected the same quiet strength and dedication he carried into every part of his life. After his military career, Nick found genuine satisfaction in his work as an HVAC technician, a trade well suited to a man who took pride in solving problems and fixing what was broken. He was often the first to offer a hand with home repairs, giving his time and skill freely to friends and neighbors who needed help.
In 2023, Nick married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ketzer, in Minneapolis. Their union was a source of great joy, and together they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and shared adventures.
Those who knew Nick remember his dry, cynical sense of humor, the kind that could fill a room with laughter when it was least expected. He was hardworking to his core and humble to a fault, never one to let others fuss over him. He drew deep comfort from the natural world, finding peace on hiking trails and open water. An avid kayaker and hiker, Nick also loved traveling, video games, and above all, spending time with his family. His rescue dog, Nina, held a special place in his heart, a faithful companion who brought him endless happiness.
Nick is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Ketzer; his parents, Beth Ketzer and Bob Ketzer; his brother, Matt Ketzer; aunts, uncles and numerous cousins. He leaves behind a family who cherished him and a circle of friends who will miss his wit, his generosity, and his steady presence.
A celebration of life will be held on June 5, 2027, on what would have been Nick's birthday, a fitting day to gather in remembrance of a life so fully lived. At a later date, his family will travel to South Carolina to spread his ashes in a place of natural beauty, returning him to the outdoors he loved so dearly.
In honoring Nick's memory, his family asks that you consider carrying his spirit of service forward. Please help spread awareness about acute myeloid leukemia, join the national marrow registry, donate blood, or make a contribution to Blood Cancer United. Such acts of kindness would reflect the generous heart of a man who was always ready to help others.
Nick faced his illness with the same courage and resolve that marked every chapter of his life. Though his time was far too short, the strength of his character, the warmth of his humor, and the depth of his love leave a lasting mark on all who knew him.
