Ralph was drafted during the Korean War to the military (Army) in the 1950s. After returning home, Virginia accepted a teaching position in Byron and Ralph got the family farm created. He loved his animals, driving his tractors and working in his gardens.

Ralph was a pioneer in many different ways. He helped his family, no matter what needed to happened. He even did the laundry and dishes. He also attended classes to try different ways of farming and milking. He wasn't afraid to try new things.

He was a charter member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Byron and was currently a member of the church's Knights of Columbus group.

Ralph was a simple guy. He loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He tried to have tiny toys in his pockets so he was always prepared to play.
