Obituary

Virginia Helen Cotten, 85 of Rochester, passed away on September 9, 2019 at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, Minnesota.

Viriginia was born on September 5, 1934 in Kalmar Township, Olmsted County to William and Lucille (Hanson) Postier.  After the death of her mother, her father Bill married Marie Swendson who helped raise Virginia and her sister Betty.  Virginia was a graduate of Byron High School.

On August 4, 1956, Virginia married Darrell Earl Cotten.  Together, they raised their family in Rochester, eventually moving to rural Kasson to be near family.   In 1998, her husband Darrell passed away and Virginia eventually moved back to Rochester.

Virginia held various jobs at St. Marys and Rochester Methodist hospitals and Mayo Clinic before retiring in 1994.  She made many friends throughout her working career.

Virginia is survived by two sons; Steve (Tammy) Cotten of Cook, MN and Mike Cotten of Mill Creek, WA; one daughter, Julie (Steve) Garcia of Dodge Center, MN; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren as well as a nephew, Dave (Londa) Johnson.

Virginia enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins, but she absolutely LOVED the Minnesota Vikings. She was up for almost anything, except eating Chinese food! She spent a great deal of time with her beloved Shar Pei dogs and enjoyed her time at the dog park.

Visitation for Virginia will be from 2:00pm – 4:00pm, Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Byron Funeral Home, with a Time of Remembrance beginning at 4:00pm. This gathering of friends and family also marks the twenty-first anniversary of her husband Darrell's death.  Virginia has been privately buried at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester alongside Darrell.
